Husani Sallah-Wilson, known as "Baba Hu," is a Houston native who discovered Permaculture Design while exploring alternative living systems. He has since blended permaculture principles with the needs of urban communities to create designs that enhance quality of life. Through thoughtful planning, Baba Hu transforms spaces into practical and aesthetically pleasing environments that serve as valuable resources for the community.
Baba Hu first met Mr. Bradford while bidding on a construction contract at Journey HTX. After securing the contract, they frequently visited the garden, discussing expansion plans as they observed the crops growing. Following Mr. Bradford's passing, Baba Hu was offered the position of Operations Manager at Journey HTX—an honor he accepted, though saddened that Mr. Bradford would not witness the expansion they had envisioned. Today, Baba Hu proudly leads the effort to continue and grow the work they began together.
His agricultural background includes a Permaculture Design Certification from Midwest Permaculture (under Bill and Becky Wilson) in 2016. Baba Hu turned to permaculture as a solution to the lack of intentional design in his urban environment, embracing the philosophy that he must be the change he wants to see. Permaculture Design equipped him with the principles and practices necessary to redesign his surroundings.
